Ranked by the US Christmas tree industry as the all-time most-popular holiday tree, the Fraser Fir is named for John Fraser, a Scot botanist born in 1750 and who explored the southern Appalachian Mountains in the late 18th century. The name of this Christmas tree is sometimes misspelled as "Frazer Fir" or "Frazier Fir."
Grown abundantly in North Carolina on a multitude of tree farms, the Fraser Fir is a densely compact evergreen with a sweetly pleasant fresh pine fragrance. It has 3/4-inch f lattened soft needles that are blunt or notched at the end and which are shiny dark green on the upper surface and silver-tinged on the lower surface. Known for its good needle retention, Fraser Fir needles are generally more dense than those of the very similar Balsam Fir tree. Branches on the Fraser Fir tree are strong, pyramid-shaped and turn slightly upward, making the tree a good choice for displaying your favorite holiday ornaments. Its narrow, spire-like tip makes it easy to place a star, angel or other tree-topper of your choice.
With its high needle retention and dense branches, the Fraser Fir will add the classic touch to your holiday home or business office this season. Many people believe this to be the most beautiful of all Christmas trees, and it has become the most popular holiday tree choice in the US today. |
